New Story schools are private schools, licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The Lancaster School offers autism support and emotional support classrooms for children ages 5 to 21 years with serious and complex educational and behavioral challenges. New Story maintains strong relationships with local school districts and works closely with the district as we consider a student for placement with us.
A referral for placement can be made at any time. Students do not have to begin at the start of a calendar period or quarter, but can be enrolled at New Story throughout the school year; even during The Extended School Year (ESY).
Together, the Individual Education Program (IEP) team determines the educational placement of a student. We work collaboratively with the school district in order to decide if New Story will meet a child’s academic and behavioral needs.
Funding for the student’s educational placement at New Story will be arranged through the home school district along with transportation services. If deemed medically necessary, students attending New Story schools may also receive behavioral health services funded through the Medical Assistance Program and/or private insurance.
